A frigid air descends upon the Earth,
A quilt woven of
Snow and ice.
A shroud resting delicately o'er
The hearts of men.

Gently smothering the embers of good will,
Cooling the fire men carry
To warm those of lesser means.
This air, this blanket of discontent
And hatred,
Spreads as if to engulf the globe.

Turning to blackened, extinguished coals
By the touch of
Noxious vapors of hatred,
Born of ignorance,
The collective soul of mankind
Proceeds to dim.

Yet, as in all things
There exists the hope of change.
Should a clearer day see fit
To disperse the miasma,
The smoldering remnants of
Human kindness may rekindle,
And once again cast light
Into the darkness.

To Clearer Days

When you see the Light
It is blinding.
It outshines the stars in the sky,
Burns away the fog,
Filling your entire vision
Till the sun itself seems a dim twinkle.

Warm and brilliant Light
It is a flood.
It washes over your body,
Pours into your heart,
Filling your entire being
Till there's nowhere Darkness can lurk.

When you see the Light
It is pure.
It shimmers in your mind,
Glimmers from every corner,
Filling your very soul
Till there is nothing you would rather see.

Seeing the Light

Discarded wretch upon the street,
Lambent glimmer in each eye,
Smell of liquor,
Look of fear,
Through it all
Recognition that
I am he.

Self Realization
Self Destruction
Self Empowerment
Self Impairment
Self Improvement
Self Immolation
Self Motivation
Self Mutilation

All the selves,
How to choose?
Positive or negative?
Too many decisions to make
The world in its blur.

How to stand up,
Take control?
Looking up from this puddle,
Stepped on and wasted,
Will no one reach down?
Render aid?
Lifting me from my
Base position?
How am I to help myself
In a race
Where you have the lead?

To you I may be lost,
But I have yet to be found.

Lost and Found?

Lost and Found?

Guilty seed of corruption
Planted in sinful soil
Fed longing desire
Shaded by deception

Your twisted vines invade
Choking off the light
A wretched kudzu
Garden vista unseen

Bolt of lightning
Burns away your greed
Sweeping divine flames
Immolate the land

Ashen, barren landscape
Watered by pure sunlight
Green sprouts anew

I refuse to go back into the dark,
To that cold, isolated box.

After what may have been an eternity,
I found a crack and broke free.
I've commandeered this vessel and
Set a new course.
From your new position,
I hear you protest but
You seem to forget,
I captained this ship
Long before you arrived.

I refuse to go back into the dark
To that cold, isolated box.

You snuck in when I was distracted.
Set up shop deep within
The core of my being.
Slowly you corrupted my soul,
Tore away at the very fabric of
Who I am.
I mistook your voice for my own.
Each time I followed your counsel
My world grew a little darker.

Yet I refuse!
I refuse to go back into the dark,
To that cold, isolated box.

I see through you now,
I know what you are.
I'll give you no quarter, no parley.
You will find no shelter,
No safe harbor from me.
I will track you to
The furthest corners of my mind.
I will haunt you as you have me.
Just you wait, for when
I have you finally cornered,
I will never go back into the dark.
To your new, cold, isolated box.

Distraction will never cause me to falter
As I stand guard over you forever.
You will whisper, bargain,
Plead and threaten.
As you do I will grin and laugh.
You hold no power over me.
I will not be swayed by you,
Your languished cries fueling my resolve.

Welcome my friend,
My constant nemesis,
To the dark,
To your cold, isolated box.

Turnabout

You've emptied my heart
Turned my face from the world.
With a cold hand,
You've frozen my emotion.
Made hard as stone.

I cannot sound off it's clear,
My lungs are clouded with the fear
That should you catch word of it,
Then to fire I shall turn.
I stand sculpted.

As rock my soul is solid,
It has hardened with the years,
Chipped by tiny blows and
Eroded by my tears.
My statue wears away.

Yet, with this constant motion,
This constant erosion,
There has come a softness
And smooth composure.
Sculpted by time.

Statue

Holding a tenuous grasp upon the
Waking world
They walk,
The sleepers, the dreamers.
For whom do they dream?
Writing symphonies among the stars.
Painting with a celestial palette
Upon an infinite canvas.
Writing into existence
The myriad mirabilis,
Patriarch and matriarch
To the rising dawn.
Donning the cloak eternal,
Drawing down the warmth of the sun.
Summoning earthly love.
The sleepers, the dreamers.
For the sleepers, the dreamers,
Spring eternal.

Tapestry

A fragment of the Fire
Flitted to the Earth
Alit and set the heart alight
One lone soul in dark ire.

Fire spread within the man
Fear and panic given birth
All he was, burning bright
No aim, no goal, he ran.

Right to waiting arms
Kinsmen set afore the hearth
Planning for the morn fight
Surely they’d douse his harms.

There set aflame his fellows
Further fear? Nay, this time mirth
Sin and Hate singed by pyre light
Fanned by early dawn bellows.

Short time later take the field
The men knew now its worth
In dying aspect of night
Only Fire did they wield.

Heaven’s Truth growing higher
Gracious victims of no dearth
Only He could know the might
A fragment of the Fire.

About Me

Bio

I am a 40 year old who has been writing poetry since my early teens. I have never been one who is particularly good at finding an audience. My hope here would be to do so and share what I have created with those who would hopefully appreciate it.
